Show THE BIG PROBLEM. "The big problem not only in Utah but in every Btatc of the Union, at Prsent, is that of the physically and mentally subnormal," declared Dr. Hebcr J. Sears, head of the department depart-ment of hygiene nt tho University of Utah, after his return from a two-month two-month trip to California and the Ha-waian Ha-waian Islands. While on his trip, Dr. Sears spent a large part of his time studying the subnormal, as well as conditions of leprosy and special work of the hygiene hy-giene of the school child. He spent two weeks in California and a month and a half in tho Hawiian Islands. Dr. Sears is now working out methods for bringing the subnormal child up to normal and providing educational ed-ucational facilities for those who are cither supernormal or sub-normal. Some of the physical defects that are folding the children back in their i school work are such deseases as l tonsils and ndnoids and bad eyesight. Special attention must also be paid to tho subndrmal mentally, ho said. They should be given special training by each state. , i I U. of U. News Bureau |
