Show I NORMAL NOTES, j Tho B. N. S. Dramatic Club cortainly did credit to their coach, Mr. Clifford Ashby, and to tho schoci, in their artistic presentation of "The Amazons." Lost year wo thought "Mr. Bob" a treat in high class comedy, but "The Amazons" is a much hotter play; and most of tho cast had tho benefit of lust year's experience. ex-perience. Tho performance has been criticized as being too tame, too effeminate; but such criticisms, criti-cisms, wo feel, must como from pcoplo who are looking for something some-thing tragic, something bloodcurdling. blood-curdling. It is the purpose of Mr. Ashby to educate public sentiment sen-timent away from that sort of thing and to create an appreciation apprecia-tion for good, clean, elevating comedy. Some people object to the play because the girls are dressed in men's clothing. Such objections show clearly that those making them havo not understood the drama. They have forgotten that tho play is a satire on the "mannish woman" and that it waB Mr. Pinero's purpose to reform re-form that sort of woman. Somo people, too, say that there was nothing to the play. This is because wo, as a community, are lacking in an appreciation of wit and humor. Wo aro rather puritanic, puri-tanic, not ablo to sco the good that comes from pure fun, and feol that unless a performance is as serious as a tomb-stone that thcro is nothing to it. - Let us changothis attitudo; let us try to understand all good litoraturo, and try to appreciate verything of a elovating nature. President Hart gave the country coun-try boy and girl inspiration by relating somo of his personal experiences ex-periences at school. Ho remind-' ed us that no matter what we do someone is influenced by our action; and that if wo work sincerely sin-cerely our influenco for good is much greater than wo realize.
