H (Poison,) H Formaldehyhe as a disinfectant, Hi - Deodorant and Antiseptic, is an H aqueous solution, containing H from 87 to 40 percent of absolute H Formaldehyde, which is an oxida- H tion product of Wood Alcohol. H This liquid is made by mixing H the vapor of boiling Wood Alco- H hoi, which is under pressure, H with air in proper quantity, and H allowing the mixed vapors to H pass over heated copper tubes, H and then condensing tho vapors H N by passing them into a coppor H tank providod with the means H for cooling tho tomporaturo to 0 H A C. Sufllcient water is added to H tho product to umko it contain H from 37 to 40 per cent by weight H of absolute formaldehyde. H It is a clear, colorless liquid, H with a pungent odor and caustic H taste, and its vapor acts as a H .;- violent irritant upon tho mucous H r mombranos of tho eyes, nose and H throat, in particular. It will mix H in all proportions with water and H alcohol. H " Formaldehyde Treatment, of H Scud Grain for Smut." Under H this title tho Colorado Expori- H ment Station has issued a hullo-B" hullo-B" a tttvibalinor with the troatment of H smut in whoat and oats.-' The H' I treatment recommended is to H spread tho seed grain on a piece H 'of canvas on hard, level ground, H and sprinkle tho grain with a B solution mado by mixing one B pound of Formaldehyde with 40 B gallons of water. This quantity m is sufllcient to treat 2,500 lbs. of B grain. Aftor sprinkling the B grain, covor over with blankets B or canvas for 2 to 4 hours. The B covering is then removed and B no Krahi s)read out and allowed B to (ry until it mav uo taken in B the hand without the kernels B sticking together, whon it should B 8wn. B Formaldchydo is especially B valuablo as a general diinfectant B or tho prevention of infectious B an(l contagious diseases. H For washing tho floor and walls H of kitchens, stables and closets, B USQ two and a half per cent B solution, mn'de by mixing one B and one half tublespoonsful of H formaldehyde to a quart of H For disinfecting stools and sick H room oxcrotion, oxpectoration, B tM ls0 uso u two and a half B per cent solution; and after H cleaning tho chambers, bed pans, m cuspidors, etc., leavo a little of H tho solution in tho vessels. B For sick rooms during tho H occupation by a patient, use a H one per cent solution, mado by H mixing three teaspoonsful of for-M for-M maldehyde to a quart of water, H "' sprayed from an automizer. It H , may bo sprayed freely over tho m walls, carpets, bed clothing and M dmperies, without damaging H them. m For sterilising clothing: Soak M over night clothing such as B sheets and towels, in a one per H cent solution, after which they M may bo washed ;is usual. Heavier H garments and bed clothes should H bo well sorximted and exposed to K yapors of formaldehyde in a - - '; ' ' tightly closed closet A two and a half per cent solution of formaldehyde with a little sugar in it is a very good thing to kill flies it acts like poison paper.
