Show j WON'T HUNT BUFFALO. President's Secretary Declines the Invitation. Owing to the limited time which President Pres-ident Roosevelt will spend in the city, his secretary, William Loeb. has written Mayor Thompson that it will be impossible impos-sible for the chief executive to accept the invitation to a buffalo hunt on Antelope An-telope island. The letter declining the invitation reads as follows: "Cinnabar. Mont.. April 21. 1903. My Dear Sir: Your letter of the ISth inst. has been received, and in reply I beg to state that owing to the limited time that the president will be in your city, he regrets that he is unable to send an acceptance to the kind invitation extended ex-tended to him by the Island Improvement Improve-ment company. "Thanking you, in the president's behalf, be-half, for your courtesy. 1 am, very truly yours. WM. LOEB, "Secretary to the President." "Hon. Ezra Thompson, Mayor Salt Lake City." Mayor Thompson received the letter yesterday afternoon. He read it before the meeting of the chairmen of the committees com-mittees which he appointed several days ago to arrange for the president's reception. recep-tion. The meeting was held in the mayor's may-or's uptown office. It lasted about an hour and a half. At its conclusion Mayor May-or Thompson said that nothing of interest inter-est to. the general public was transacted, the time being consumed largely in the discussion of plans. A meeting will be held this afternoon, after which it is expected ex-pected that the names of the people selected to serve on the various commit- I tees will be made public. j |
