Show SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. E. A. Wedgwood returned Tuesday Tues-day evening from a stay of a few days in Provo. -- Morris Fitzgerald and wife were in Part City last week. W. W. Bacon is in the city from Denver. He expects to make this his home, and his family will be here shortly. Mrs. J. E. Hicks has been in the city for some days past, visiting with her parents. She expects to return soon to her home in Boulder, Colo. The engagement of Miss A. Phelps and Mr. Richard O'Connor, both of this city, is announced. P. J. Quealy, after spending a day or so in Salt Lake departed for Kemmer-er, Kemmer-er, Wyo., his home, last night. Mrs. Frank Wilson is down from Boise, and is the guest of Mrs. J. W. FarrelL Mrs. and Miss Judge sailed on Thursday Thurs-day for Japan from San Francisco. They will be away some time. Mrs. S. V. Perrine of Blue Lakes, Ida., is the guest for the week of Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Spencer. i Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Kelly will I be at home to their friends hereafter at 455 East First South. Cannon, who was operated upon a few days ago at the Holy Cross hospital for appendicitis, appendi-citis, has improved so rapidly the last j day or two that his recovery seems as- i sured. j j Miss Frances Wilson of Park City is visiting in the city, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Westcott. Mrs. James E. Hickey entertained at a delightful card party on Wednesday evening. -V- Mrs. D. R. Gray gives a sixty-three Party this Saturday afternoon. Judge Thomas Marshall and Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Gray have invitations out for a sixty-three party, to be given on the evening, of the 21st, -5 Messrs. Frank M. Wilson and W. J. Halloran, officials of the Johnny Mining Min-ing company, departed for its properties proper-ties at Stateline Saturday night, to be present at the starting up of the new mill. -S Mr. and Mrs. Eskridge returned from the east during the week and have gone I to their home in Seattle, accompanied by Miss Keith, who will visit there for several weeks. Mrs. Sol Sigelgave a delightful li tie event on Friday night, a novelty being be-ing introduced in the shape of dom-inos. dom-inos. The color was pink and the disguised dis-guised guests entered merrily into the dancing and other entertainments of the evening. Dancinsr was eniovd in the drawing room and billiards in the next room. The decorations and music were all that could be desired and at 11 o'clock supper was served at small tables in the library and dining room. . General Manager John J. Daly of the Daly-Judge left for a trip to the coast during the week. He said that during his long absence in the east the president of the company, O. J. Salisbury, worked himself into the managerial harness in good shape and while he has the opportunity Mr. Daly proposes to keep him at work. As the result of a surgical operation which Mr. Daly underwent while in New York he has not regained perfect strength in and control of his right arm. President Salisbury has signified signi-fied his willingness to look after' the mine for a while longer, 60 Mr. Daly will take it easy. J. D. The ball given by the electrical workers work-ers at Christensen's hall Tuesday evening even-ing was an immense success, and the merry dancers enjoyed the gaiety till a late hour. The hall was beautifully illuminated and many colored lights lent the brightness of fairyland to -the ; scene. , One of the most delightful events of last week was a surprise party giveni the members of Camp 53, Woodmen of' the World, by their -wives last .Tuesday .Tues-day evening. There was a fine musical mu-sical programme rendered, after which those present adjourned to the banquet hall and were served with a lunch. Edward McGurrin has gone east on a brief business trip and during his absence Mrs. McGurrin will spend the time in California visiting her brothers, broth-ers, the Messrs. Trumbo. Av very enjoyable evening was spent by a number of the friends of. Mr. and Mrs.. E. P. Scoville at' their residence, 373 South Second West street, last Thursday evening. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. William H. Wilkinson. Mr. and Mrs. John Zink, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Keeley, Mr. and Mrs. James Cuddy, Cud-dy, Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Keeley, after which a delightful luncheon lunch-eon was served. Miss Myrtle. McEvoy, who was ill last week, has recovered her usual health. Mrs. N. P. Dooley will soon leave for California. rJ W. J. Cosgriff and little daughter daugh-ter are spending the winter months in California. Vice President J. D. Wood of the Daly-West Mining company expects to leave shortly for Mexico to look, after aft-er his vast livestock interests in that republic. Mr and Mrs. Fred Noble have gone to their Idaho ranch and from there will go to California for the remander of the winter. , S- Miss Marie Luce entertained the B. D. club on Friday evening. Colonel Thomas Keogh has returned from San Francisco and says he had a good time out there. Joseph Geoghegan is in California on a business trip. Miss Alice Fisher is visiting friends in California. J. B. Cosgriff leftm Friday for California, Cali-fornia, to join Mrs. Cosgriff. - r- Ambrose Delaney, the 15-year-old son of Mr.' and Mrs. John Delaney of 426 West Second South, was operated on last Saturday at the Holy Cross hospital hos-pital for appendicitis. The many friends of the family will be glad to know that the patient is progressing I well and will be around again in a few days. j The reception given Tuesday evening ! by Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Wood at their handsome new home on Brigham street was one of the largest events of the season. The affair was planned In honor of their children, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Hagenbarth and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh C. Wood. Mr. and Mrs. Wood , and their guests of honor were assisted ; in receiving by Mrs. Albert C. Allen, Mrs. James X. Ferguson, Mr. Josiah Barnett and Mr Simon Bamberger. In the dining room Mrs. Harkness and Mrs. Solomon Siegel poured coffee, and ai a dainty punch table Miss Dern and ' Miss Margie Miller served the cheering cheer-ing beverage. About 250 guests were t invited, and the rooms were filled dur- ' ing the evening with the many friends of the host and hostess. The second reception in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Hagenbarth and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh C. Wood was given Wednesday evening by Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Wood at their home on Brigham street. Assisting the receiving party were Mrs. . Albert Cooper Allen, Mrs. James X. Ferguson, Mr. Barnett, Mr. Simon Bamberger, Mr. Kimball and Mr. Van Nevens. Coffee was served in the dining room by Mrs. Solomon Siegel and Mrs. Harkness. and in the hall where Miss Dern presided over the punch bowl, she was assisted by Miss Dorothy Kinney. The rooms were filled with guests during the entire evening, nearly 300 invitations having been issued. is-sued. Mrs. William Murphy entertained at a delightful Kensington on Friday afternoon aft-ernoon of last week. About twenty-five ladies spent a most delightful afternoon. after-noon. A novel feature of the entertainment enter-tainment was for each guest to relate t the most amusing experience of her I Hfe. The first prize whs won by Mrs. H. H. Butler. j One of the prettiest afternoon par- j ties of the past Week was the sixty-three sixty-three party given on Wednesday afternoon aft-ernoon by Mrs. William Murphv. The i first prize was won by Mrs. H. O. Tre-ganza Tre-ganza and the second prize by Mrs. i A. Payne. The pretty little homo was ' very tastefully decorated, and after the games delicious refreshments were served. -$ j Mrs. David Loughrin and son, Thomrs Loughrin, of Butte are visit- j Ing in the -city for a few weeks. Miss Myrtle Fahy entertained at her home on Wednesday evening. A most enjoyable time was spent in games and music. The Misses Bourreaus favored the party with several of their favorite piano solos. The color scheme was pink and white, and with darkened dark-ened rooms and candelabra with pink shades made a handsome sight. Wood went down to Salt Lake Monday afternoon. Judge W. L. Maginnis is confined to his home on account of rheumatism. Mrs. H. H. Spencer, Mrs. Abe Kuhn and Mrs. Arthur; Kuhn went to. The beautiful building w.'is Erected by the late D. H. Peery, who took special delight in the same, but since his demise " the home has been considered bythe family entirely too large.flt was" thought for- a time that -the Weber club would lease the mansion man-sion for a club house, but they found that the expenses would be more than they could afford, therefore the plan was abandoned. Mrs. P. T. Ferris has leased the "Virginia" and will occupy It about July 1, making out of it an up-to-date hotel. Mrs. Peery will erect for herself a small home next ' to the mansion on the south side. |
