Show Two Morgan Partners. (New York ICveiiing WorM.) The Rev. Ir. Hillis' interesting newspaper news-paper sermon on "Success" was i tl ustrn f-erl f-erl by the concrete example of Georse W. Perkins, perhaps the best known of Mr. J. P. Morgan's partners, and the nne t" whom the firm's more important ventures in high finance have been intrusted for negotiation. It appears that Mr. Perkins began his business life as ;,n office hoy in t.'htcac. and it is profitable to compare his caret r wHh that of another Mfrcaii partner. Mr. , Uobert Bacon, who went to college before he entered business. The events of their lives up to the time of their association with Mr. Morgan may be shown in par-aHel: par-aHel: MB. PKRK1XS. Mil. The resemblance in age, in rapidity of advancement and in the possession of sound physique, which made it possible for them to assume great financial rf-sponsibilities rf-sponsibilities without a breakdown, makes the parallel of their lives striking. It might seem at first thought that Mr. Hat'on, turning from school books abruptly ab-ruptly to a.n entirely new line of study, had accomplished the greater victory. But we find the college hoy resigning after two years of partnership, giving tip a guaranteed income of $;;00,000. while we see Mr. Parkins getting a firmer grip and becoming the chief executive of the great magnate of finance. Is it because of the earlier beginning of his business training? Was the office boy's success built on a firmer foundation founda-tion than the college boy's? The fact of Mr. Perkins' phenomenal rise is interesting; interest-ing; in connection with Mr. Bacon's earlier ear-lier quitting of the game it is instructive. |
