Show The Christmas Stocking. The stockings, carefully chosen for their length, dangle in the chimney place. Seen in the ligh of early morn they are swollen misshapen things; but the more grotesquely distorted they are the greater is the promise of rich contents. In the category of childish joys there is none greater than getting down to the toe of a well filled stocking. stock-ing. The Christmas tree has its, place, but after all is said, it - is a garish, showy thing, meant for the public gaze and to be seen under the glare of lights. Contrast that with the keen pleasure of rushing through darkened rooms, j braving shadows lurking in corners and reaching out at one menacingly, and then .back again, heavily laden, to the j snug, warm bed, where the stocking is rifled of its treasures. Were there ever such presents! Or such a Christmas? |
