Show St. Mary's Academy. The class in physical culture ha been reorganized, and, under the efficient training of Miss Johnson, is doing excellent ex-cellent work. The exercises "are an earnest of the care that is taken that they serve the purposes of a higher education, ed-ucation, whether physical, mental or moral. For the pupil's three-fold nature is everywhere and In everything recognized. recog-nized. Thdt the physical being should grow in strength, grace and beauty: the intellect in knowledge and wisdom, wis-dom, and the heart in virtue, are deemed deem-ed essential towards attaining the education edu-cation which it is the aim of St. Mary's to impart. With the return of the invigorating 9utumnal breezes, many of the young ladies have succumbed to the basket- ball fever, which has been raging particularly par-ticularly among the members of the higher classes, from which an excellent team has been recruited, coached by Miss Lydia White. A valuable adjunct to nature study was recently secured through Mrs. Spalding, who gave an exhibition of her rare collection of Australian birds in the Academy hall. It was both interesting in-teresting and amusing to watch the birds, as in response to their respective respec-tive names they advanced and performed per-formed their allotted task with a skill and intelligence bordering on the human, hu-man, quite conscious, too. of the pleasure pleas-ure they afforded their youthful spectators, spec-tators, and duly appreciative of the plaudits that greeted each of ,their several sev-eral performances.
