Show DEATH OF AX ENGLISH BISHOP. Rt. Rev. John Baptist Cahill,.D. D., Bishop of Portsmouth. England, died at Bishop's House. Portsmouth, on August 2. The deceased prelate was born in London in 1841. and after passing several years as student and professor at Old Hall, being ordained in 1864. was appointed to St. Mary's, Ryde. as his first mission in 1866. Appointed Ap-pointed as the first Vicar-General of the diocese of Portsmouth in 1SS2. he was created a Private Chamberlain and Protonotary Apostolic by Lep XIII. and beeamc Provost of the Portsmouth Chapter in succession to lions. Crookall. In 1904 he was consecrated con-secrated Bishop-Coadjutor to Bishop Vertue. whom he. succeeded as Bishop of Portsmouth in the same year. |
