A circular letter by the Bishop of Kentucky, urging parents to send . their children to parochial schools because be-cause they receive proper religious Instruction, In-struction, has just been ordered read by all Factors in his diocese by Bishop Matz. Sunday all the Denver Priests obeyed this order and read the letter at the morning service. St. Joseph's parish will give a fair for the benefit of the 'church the last week in October. At a meeting of the parish societies last nig'ht the following follow-ing were appointed to direct the exhibition: ex-hibition: C. H. Wilkins, chairman; S. J. Young, secretary; Frank P. Cough-lin, Cough-lin, assistant secretary; Charles O'Donnell, O'Don-nell, treasurer: Sanctuary Society booth, Mrs. C. H. Wilkins; L. C. B. A. booth, Mrs. M. J. Hurley; Ladies' Sodality So-dality booth, Mrs. Mary Dwyer; Young Ladies' Sodality booth. Miss Mamie Ormsby: Children of Mary booth, Miss May Sullivan. $v- The Sisters of St. Clara's Orphanage will hold a fair for the benefit of the institution in St. Elizabeth's school hall, Sept. 24 to 29. S Mr. Michael W. Donovan left this week for Baltimore, where he will complete his theological course at the Sulpician Seminary. Mr. Donovan is a native of Boston, but for the past six years 'has made Denver his home. During his residence here he has made many friends, who, while sincerely regretting re-gretting his departure, are rejoiced that he "hath chosen the better part." Right Rev. Bishop Matz returned from Walsenburg, Colo., last Tuesday. I Mr. Joseph O'Neil, former organist of the Logan Avenue Choir, is improving improv-ing in health, but will not be able to look after the choir this year. Mr. Michael is to be his successor. a Sister Mary Kostka of Pueblo and Sister . Mary Guy, formerly assistant directress of the .Loretto Normal school in Kentucky, are to be added to the staff of teachers at St. Mary's Academy for th.e coming session. Mrs. John F. Cullen Court, Women's Catholic Order Or-der of Foresters, held a picnic at Elitch's Gardens last Saturday. The Colleg of the Sacred Heart will open its 1900-1 term on Wednesday, Sept. 5. Knights of St John, was held in St. Elizabeth's hall last Monday evening. i Mr. and Mrs. Harry O'Rrvan returned re-turned from the east last Thursday. -- Preparations are progressing rapidly for the big. bazaar planned to raise funds for the new Cathedral. It is to be in charge of Mrs. J. J. Brown. Mrs Brown made $10,000 for St. Joseph's Hospital two years ago, and the clergy of the Cathedral parish have been waiting for her to get home from Europe Eu-rope in order to press her into service anew. The bazaar will be from Nov. 15 to Dec. 1, at the power house, Broadway Broad-way and Colfax, and its booths will probably be a brilliant spectacle of the homes of all nations, or some equally striking and attractive design. Miss Guidonia Robinson gave a very charming musicale at her home, 166 Washington, last Tuesday evening to meet her guest, Miss Marie Mattinglv of Washington. . Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Monahan spent last week in Manitou. Miss Essie McCa.be la visiting in Georgetown. Mr. W. E. Reilly of Como, Colo., was in Denver last week. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Keating who have spent the past. year at. the Cata-line Cata-line Islands, will remain another, .year so much have they been pleased with their residence there.
