Show Rev. Father Thomas J. Ducey, pastor pas-tor of St. Leo's Church, New York, has barred pennies from the collection baskets bas-kets of the church. At the morning mass last Sunday Father Ducey announced an-nounced that he wanted no more pennies pen-nies put into the basckets. He had counted nearly $9 in the previous Sunday's Sun-day's collection, he said. "This putting put-ting of, pennies in the collection plates," continued Father Ducey, "is an insult to the church." From reports long current, Father Ducey is badly in need of pennies and should not turn his nose up at them. At one time he had one of the richest and most' fashionable congregations In New York. He rebelled against the authority of his bishop and today 'he lives in a house blistered with mortgages. Father Ducey should re-merriber re-merriber that it was the pennies of servant girls of New York that helped to build the great St. Patrick's Cathedral. Ca-thedral. - |
