Bishop Brondel preached Sunday evening at the Cathedral exhorting the faithful to practice devotions in honor of St. Anthony. An-thony. He gave a brief description of the Saint's life on earth and the many wonderful favors obtained through his assistance and intercession and hoped that this grand devotion so widespread will still increase among the faithful. Bishop Brondel also spoke on the great St. Francis of Assisi, founder of the Franciscan Order for men and St. Clare Order for women. His Lordship during his last visit to Rome celebrated celebrat-ed mass in the -Church '.of Assisi, erected erect-ed as a monument to this great Saint. He also saw many relics which are carefully guarded, among them the veil worn by the Blessed Virgin and thorns from the crown which pierced the head of our Blessed Savior. Bishop Brondel also made the Stations of the Cross through the streets of Jerusalem, upon the sacred places where our dear Lord suffered such agony for us. The Franciscan Fran-ciscan Fathers have . charge of these sacred places in Jerusalem. This I beautiful devotion, the Way of the , Cross was brought into practice by St. Francis. A brand new Republican morning paper clothed with the title of The Montana Daily Record put in its appearance ap-pearance not quite two weeks ago. It is a bright newsy paper and aims to give all the latest news concerning the political affairs but all one-sided. Mrs. George S. Hoyt and son, who have teen visiting Mrs. T. C. Power and the Misses Murphy the past month leave this week to visit friends at Lake Minnetonka. & - Father Cataldo the well known Jesuit Father from Washington, is here to conduct the Priests Retreat this week. Rev. De Becker from Louvain, Belgium, Bel-gium, is expected at the Bishop's residence resi-dence this week. Father De Becker is p.n old and valued schoolmate of Bishop Brondel's and his . visit will bring back happy reminiscences of their early days spent together across the ocean in Belgium. Will Dawson of Boulder, who went to Nome last spring, returned from that country a few days ago. He thinks Montana is good enough for him now and is content after seeking fairer and better lands to -settle down once more in the Copper'state. The many friends of Mrs. William Stuewe regret to hear of her recent illness and it is to be hoped she will soon be out of danger. The latest report re-port is quite favorable although her condition is quite critical. Joseph Callahan, clerk of the district court, has been very ill with typhoid fever. He is much improved and i3 now on a fair road to recovery. Catherine Haley, a young student of St. Vincent's academy, has had an attack at-tack of typhoid fever, but is now re- covering. Father McGlynn, one of the new priests from Alleghany, N. Y., has been appointed assistant at St. Patrick's, Butte City, Mont. Father Stack has been appointed assistant as-sistant to Father De Rychue, the Pioneer Pio-neer Priest of Montana, at Deer Lodge. Father De Rychue has been ministering to the faithful of Montana for the past thirty-four years and is well and widely known throughout the state. -.'- The mission given by Father Hooper, the Paullst missionary at Boulder last week was largely attended. The fore part of the week mission services were held morning and evening at Boulder City and the latter part of the week in Boulder valley. Miss Mamie Young of Helena and her cousin, Miss Mamie Flynn of Cascade, I leave the first of September to attend I school at the Convent of the Visitation j St. Paul, Minn. Little Hugh Carter celebrated his eighth birthday last Saturday by entertaining en-tertaining about thirty-five of his young friends at a cake walk. It was an amusing sight to see the young folks, the boys carrying canes and the girls fans and parasols, stepping gracefully grace-fully to the cakewalk music. Fallon O'Byrne and Miss Annie Sweeney Were considered the champion cake walkers and were awarded the cake. Miss Pauley of Butte was the guest of honor at a picnic party' given last Sunday , at the Dam. The day was spent boat riding on Lake Sewell and lunch was served shortly after the arrival ar-rival of the party. Those .who made up the happy crowd were Misses Lynch Pauley, Frances Pauley, Jacoby, Caub' Finn, McDonough, Messrs. Schown-bourn, Schown-bourn, Amann, Cady, Richard, N Richard, Fox, Heckett, Finn and Mrs' Cady. |
