Show A Remarkable Stone. Harper's Weekly for March 26 contains con-tains an account by Hjalmar R. Holland, Hol-land, of the remarkable stone, inscribed with runes, which was unearthed not long ago In Kensington, Minnesota, The stone is the record of a band of Norse explorers who penetrated into that region re-gion in 1362. The Inscription reads as follows: "Eight Goths (Swedes) and twenty-two twenty-two Norwegians upon journey of discovery dis-covery from Vinland (Nova Scotia) westward. We had camp by two rocks (In the watar) one day's journey north from this stane. We were out fishing one day. When we returned home we found ten men red with blood and dead. ATM (Ave 'Maria). We (have) ten men' by the sea to look upon our vessel, (forty-one?) days' journey from this island. Year 1362." Ave Maria. |
