Show General Election Soon. The Press Association says: Inquiry In-quiry at Downing street has elicited the fact that there has been considerable consid-erable activity there today (Saturday) in the chief whip's department. The master of Elibank, the government chief whip, and Mr. J. Herbert were busily engaged in perfecting their preparations prep-arations for a general election. The Press Asseciation's representative "was informed by Mr. Jesse Herbert that the chief whip is making arrangements to fight every seat held by an opponent, oppo-nent, and that the statement in today's (Saturday's) issue of a leading London journal to the effect that many constituencies consti-tuencies on both sides would be uncontested un-contested is entirely without foundation, founda-tion, certainly so far as respects the Liberal party. |
