Show I T0N0PAH, NEV. (Special Correspondence.) ' The congregation of the Catholic church enjoyed a rare treat last Sunday in the singing of Miss Trent of St. Ix)uis. The first number rendered by Miss Trent was Gounod's "Oh, Divine Redeemer." The second was Hadyn's "With Verdure Clad." Both were ably given and demonstrated the wonderful power as well as sweetness of Miss Trent's voice. The choir, accompanied by the efficient organist. Miss Valencia Bawden. formerly of St. Mary's, sang Concone's "Kyries and Agnus Dey," and the "Sanctus'' from Leonard's. The Knights of Columbus hold their meetings every other Sunday evening. Quite a number of Sir Knights went to Reno two weeks ago to attend the installation, in-stallation, and banquet given there. They speak of th new church as progressing pro-gressing rapidly, and all enjoyed the hospitality of the Renoites. Rev. Father Roser is still officiating in Goldfield during Rev. Father Dur-.nody's Dur-.nody's absence. - Miss Ethel Murphy of Goldfield s visiting with Miss O'Meara. At last Sunday's service Miss Murphy accompanied accom-panied Miss Trenton. Tonopah can now boast a well-equipped well-equipped gas plant, known as the Nevada Ne-vada Gas company. About fifty residents resi-dents have already had the gass installed in-stalled in their homes for cooking pur- poses. The members of the Sanctuary society socie-ty held a very successful meeting at the home of Mrs. McNamara and elected elect-ed officers for the ccming year. All the old officers were re-elected, and. a report of collections and expenditures for the pa3t year was presented, showing show-ing $910 raised from different sources. Of this amount $800 was expeneded for altars and church decorations, leaving a balance on hand to start the second year: . Miss Lillie Aherny and Miss Amy Fout left for Santa Cruze during the week. |
