M fx ' Vr 47 i:i - ' . ; 0f DR. ALLAN FOWLER. The sudden death of Dr. Allen Fowler Fow-ler on last Wednesday morning was a great shock to every one in the intermountain inter-mountain region. By his death the city has lost a man of sterling worth and unblemished character. He was so long identified with Salt Lake, and in fact with the whole -state, that it seems impossible to realize that his great, generous, honest heart is stilled forever. for-ever. But the world is better that such a man lived. He tried to extend ex-tend to suffering humanity, the great hearted charity of Him. who said, "the greatest of these is charity." Dr. Allan Fowler is deeplv mourned by all who knew him, for the sturdy fearless integrity of his character in his profession that won for him the confidence of all. Dr. Fowler leaves jio relatives in. thi-3 city, with the exception of J. D. Wood, the well known mining operator, who is a second cousin. He has a number of relatives in Virginia, who have been notified of his death. The evening before be-fore his death. Dr. Fowler had the happiness of being received into the Catholic church and was baptized by Rt. Rev. Bishop Scarilan. it is a source of much consolation to the sisters sis-ters that the doctor died in the true faith. ' As long as life lasts, the memory of Dr. Fowler will linger in the hearts of ever- sister of the Holy Cro-sa hospital. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon after-noon from St. .Mary's cathedral. The services were beautified and impressive, impres-sive, and the hundreds of sorrowing people present testified to the deep respect re-spect and love felt for the deceased. As a fitting recognition of his faithful faith-ful work at the Holy Cross hospital, his remains were laid in state in the parlors par-lors of the institution. The Toom was draped in mourning, and the casket rested beneath a canopy of crepe, over which was hung the picture ot the deceased. de-ceased. , When Doctor Fowler was laid awav forever, the world lost, a noble and good man, a man whose death is a personal per-sonal loss to the eommunitv. May his last sleep be sweet, his .?oul safe in the folds of the one true church. At a meeting of the staff of the Holy Cross hospital, the following resolutions resolu-tions were adopted on the death of Dr Allen Fowler: Whereas. It has pleased an all wise Providence to remove from our midst Dr. Allen Fowler, medical director of this hospital for more than twenty-eight twenty-eight years past, and. Whereas, We, the members of the hospital staff, realizing our great loss; I therefore be it . j Resolved, That i the death of Dr. j Fowler this institiYon has lost one of l its best friends and most loyal sup-I sup-I porters, the staff a conservative coun-! coun-! sellor. and the poor of this city a sympathizing sym-pathizing friend. ! Resolved, That. Salt Lake City and . the whole intermountain region have lost one of its oldest and ablest physicians phy-sicians and surgeons, he having been engaged in the practice of medicine in ' this region for morsthan thirty-four j years, past. And be it further Resolved, That a an additional mark ; of respect, the staff will attend in a body the . last, sad rites over the remains re-mains of our lamented. f riend, and that a copy of theser resolutions be sent to the relatives of Dr.: Fowler and also-a copy be furnished, to. the Sisters of the Holy Cross hospital, to the newspapers of this city and to the journal of the American Medical, association. Baldwin's Bald-win's office at 5 p; m.-for the purpose of expressing their sympathy and taking tak-ing action with regard to the death of , Dr. Allen Fowler, .'. , ' It was moved by Dr. P. Jones and! seconded by, Dr. A. C. Ewing that a j floral design -be purchased for the fu- i neral. The motion was carried unani- I mously and Dr.,, S.. C. Baldwin was se- I lected to select the design. ; It was moved,: seconded and carried unanimously that, the members of the profession meetuFriday May 9. at 3, p. j m. at St. Mary's cathedral and attend the funeral in a body. , . . u The following resolution was carried unanimously: . ;. . .. Whereas, In the death of Dr. Fowler the profession of medicine at large and especially in Salt Lake City has sustained sus-tained a great loss: therefore be it Resolved, That we, his fellow practitioners practi-tioners do hereby express our sorrow and convey to his relatives our deep sympathy.
