Show 0GDEN, UTAH. The ladies of St, Joseph's church gave an ice cream and cake party at the residence res-idence of Mrs. McGuire, 549 Twenty-fifth Twenty-fifth street, Wednesday afternoon. (Special- Correspondence.) There are occasions in life that thrill spectators by pomp and awe onlookers with dignity; there are scenes and anniversaries an-niversaries that fill the mind with joyful joy-ful associations; but there is no ceremony cere-mony so replete with pure devotion, no sight so fraught with the memory of innocent childhood as that of a First Communion day, and those fortunate enough to witness the ceremony last Sunday morning in St. Joseph's church felt deeply impressed. At 8:30 the procession, consisting of sixty-three children, headed by crojs bearer and acolyte, entered the church, while the pupils of Sacred Heart academy aca-demy sang tender, soulful hymns. As soon as they were seated, every movement move-ment bespeaking reverence, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was begun, with Rev. P. M. Cushnahan as celebrant. Immediately before the Credo the children chil-dren made their profession of faith and renewed their baptismal vows. As the solemn part of the mass drew near little Katharine Tyler, one of the communicants, communi-cants, read in a clear, expressive voice the acts before communion. When she had concluded the boys filed into the when the Gcd of Love would, for the sanctuary awaiting the solemn moment first time, rest in their hearts. In unison, uni-son, they recited the act of desire, and knelt to receive the Maker of Heaven and earth. It Is safe to say that few in the church did not long to be children chil-dren again. The sermon preached by Father Cushnahan was an earnest exhortation to the parents and children and carried conviction in every tone. At 4 p. m. the scapular was conferred and benediction bene-diction of the Blessed Sacrament given. Thursday morning at 10 o'clock Right Rev.- Laurence Scanlan administered the sacrament of confirmation to the First Communion class, and to several adults recently baptized. A full account ac-count of the ceremony will appear in the next issue of The Intermountain Catholic.
