Show Races in England. The intimate intermingling of races presented by the population of the British Isles is illustrated in the case of the protagonists in the present constitutional con-stitutional struggle. James Lawrence Law-rence Garvin, editor of The Observer, whose turgid rhetoric drove the Lords to reject the Budget, is curiously enough the son of an Irish farm laborer, la-borer, and was not long ago a pupil teacher in a Catholic elementary school and a Parnellite, local secretary secre-tary of the United Irish League. Mr. Balfour is half English and half Scotch. The mother of Lord Hals-bury, Hals-bury, the Tory Lord Chanclelor, is a Moran of County Mayo, Ireland. Lord Lansdowne. the leader of the Lords, is mostly Irish, partly Scotch, partly French, plus a little English. Winston Wins-ton Churchill is half American and half English. Lloyd-George is Welch. Mr. Redmond is Irish, and Mr. As-quith As-quith is typical Yorkshire. The seventh sev-enth Edward was three parts German and the tiniest bit English. |
