The ladies of SL Mary's parish tendered ten-dered a reception, tea party and entertainment en-tertainment on St. Patrick's day in the afternoon and evening in the rectory, rec-tory, the proceeds for the poor of the parish. The affair can certainly be regarded as a great success, both in line of sociability and financing. Music, Mu-sic, songs and recitations formed the program. Professor C. M. Prior's orchestra or-chestra rendered excellent music in the. afternoon C. M. Prior, violinist; Miss Pauline Prior, cornetist; Mrs. G. B. Shulty, pianist. Miss Mary Flanagan Flan-agan and Miss Bulah Walker rendered vocal solos. In the evening Professor Frank A. Prior's and Miss Jessie Wharton's orchestra rendered a number num-ber of musical selections, which were well received. The committee having the social affair In charge were Mes-dames Mes-dames F. A. Proir, D. H. Sullivan. L. N. Depeyre. M. Grace, M. Murtaugh. L. J. Leef, C. Dallinger, G. Schott. M. Alten, M. T. Galvin and Miss Elizabeth Eliza-beth Schroder. The rectory was decorated de-corated with potted plants and flowers. Green and white were the prevailing colors. All who had the pleasure to attend the affair were well pleased. A splendid sum was realized. real-ized. The choir is rehearsing music for the great feast of Easter. The feast of the Annunciation of Our-Lady on last Wednesday was very largely attended. A number of our parishioners received Holy Communion Commu-nion at 7 and 8 o'clock masses. The Holy Masses at 7 and 7:30 during dur-ing the week are largely attended, as are the Wednesday. Friday and Sunday Sun-day evening services during the Lenten Lent-en season. At a meeting of Colorado Springs Council 52, Knights of Columbus, on Tuesday evening, March 24. Dr. J. F. McConnell read a very able paper arranged by him, on the subject "Life After Death," which was well received. re-ceived. Rev. Philip Saint Louis of Mishi-cott. Mishi-cott. Wis., who has been here for several sev-eral months on account of his health, has loft this week for his home. The children of the parish are receiving re-ceiving instructions for First Holy Communion every Monday. Wednesday Wednes-day and Friday afternoons at 3:15, in the church. On last Sunday Rev. Father Rober j delivered an eloquent sermon on the "Passion of Our Lord" at the High Mass, and Rev. Father Hagus delivered deliv-ered a very eloquent sermon on "The Christian Husband and Wife." Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Gillcen of 2913 Lawrence street. Sacred Heart parish. Denver, attended High Mass at St. Mary's church last Sunday. Miss Agnes Wahn and Miss Freder-icka Freder-icka Duggan of St. Leo's parish, at Denver, were visiting here on Saturday Satur-day and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Hemus of Washington, Wash-ington, D. C, were guests at the Joyce on Saturday and Sunday, and I on Monday left for Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Hemas are en route to Santa Barbara, Cal. Rev. S. S. Shar of Wheeling, W. Va., was a visitor at the rectory on last Wednesday. Father Shar Is expecting to visit points of interest on the Pacific Pa-cific slope. Miss Emma J. Glockenspiel of St. Alphonsus parish, at St. Louis, Mo., spent Sunday and Monday here with friends. Miss Emma will spend about two months with her brother and family, who reside in St. Elizabeth's parish. Denver. Dr. Daniel J. Scully of Colorado Springs has been elected president of the Rocky Mountain Alumni association associa-tion of Columbia university. Mr. and Mrs. P. J. siieehan and family are now pleasantly located in their cozy home. 1931 North Tejon street, where they will be pleased to receive their friends. |
