Show Hibernians Settle Differences. After twenty years of dissension the two' bodies of the Ancient Order of Hibernians the Board of America and the Board of Erin have, .amalgamated in Xcw York County. It is estimated that 100,000 men and 180,000 women will be affected by the. reunion, re-union, which was brought about by the ' County President of America, P. J. McXulty, and Xational President of the Board of Erin, Janics Dougherty. Daniel Clancy, County Corresponding Secretary of the Board of America, made this announcement: "The settlement of this dispute, is the most important im-portant move we have made'in our 'entire history," he said. "Xow that differences are" patched up, J feel sure that thousands of Irishmen dn this country coun-try will desert the smaller organisations and become be-come members of our order. "The dissension arose at our 'national meeting ill Cleveland, Ohio, in 1881, over the question of admitting the children-of members who,had intermarried inter-married with other nationalities. '.'-Xearly'-all of the . number voted in favor of the admission, but. the balance, who held that only full-blooded Irisbmeii should belong to the organization, and that, the head -power should be on the other side, remained steadfast, stead-fast, and formed the Board of Erin." The first result of the reunion will ,be the erec- j tion at Fifth Avenue and One Hundrpd and Sixteenth Six-teenth street of a club house and offices; which will ! be thrown open to all Irish societies.- ': j |
