Show lj BUTTE, MONT. j Delegates from the eight state councils. coun-cils. Knights of Columbus, are gathered gath-ered in Butte attending the annual state convention of the order, the opening sessions of which were held yesterday. State Deputy Joseph R. Jackson is presiding and the business of the convention was about completed com-pleted yesterday afternoon. Last night the delegates and members attending at-tending the gathering were entertained at a dancing party given by the members mem-bers of the Butte council at the Elk's hall. Perhaps the features of the convention conven-tion were the reports of the treasurer and secretary, which showed a great financial gain and an increase in membership mem-bership of about S00. Two new councils coun-cils were organized during the year, according to the report, making the total number of councils eight and ihe membership more than 2.000. Councils .are located at Butte, Billings. Helena. Missoula, Anaconda, Livingston. Living-ston. Kalispell and Bozeman. The largest council in point of membership is the Butte council, with Helena and A naconda second and third. State Deputy Jackson read his report dealing with the work of the order during dur-ing the year and results of his visits to the various councils, as well as recommendations and other matters in his department. The funeral of the late Jerry Low-ney. Low-ney. a well-known citizen of Butte and a former secretary of the Butte Miners' Min-ers' union, who died Monday at a local hospital after a brief illness, was held Wednesday morning from the residence resi-dence of his cousin, Representative Patrick Lowney, on Pennsylvania avenue. ave-nue. A high mass of requiem was celebrated cele-brated at St. Mary's church. The pallbearers pall-bearers were old friends and officers of the Miners' union. Interment was; made in the Catholic cemetery. Mr. Lowney was a resident of Butte for 13 years, and recently completed a term as secretary of the local Miners' union. His brother, the late Patrick Lowney, preceded mm in tins position. He is survived by three brothers. James, Michael and John. The latter reside in Utah, and came to Butte to attend the funeral. Mr. Lowney's mother and father reside in Ireland. A number of cousins and other kinsmen reside in Butte. Marie Henrietta Murphy, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Murphy, died Saturday at the family residence. 131C East Second street, of whooping cough. The little one is sur-v.ved sur-v.ved by her parents and five brothers and sisters. The funeral was private and was held Monday afternoon from the family residence, proceeding to St. Joseph's church, where services were held. Attended by hundreds of those who had known .him during his lifetime, the funeral of the late Edward P. Mullen took place in this city Monday morning. morn-ing. The process'on left the family residence. West Broadway, at 9:30 o'clock, proceeding down Washington Wash-ington street to St. Patrick's church. Preceding the hearse were delegations representing the Silver Bow club. Knights of Columbus and the Elks At the church a solemn high mass of recjuiem was celebrated by Rev. Father De Sicre. assisted by Rev. Father Foiled Foi-led as deacon and Rev. Father O'Ken-nedv' O'Ken-nedv' as subdeacon. The altar was draped in black and the service was .thoroughly impressive, concluding With the chanting of the burial service by Rev. Father De Siere and his assistants. assist-ants. At the grave the services were conducted by Rev. Father De Siere, assisted as-sisted bv Rev. Father O'ICennedy and Rev. Father Sullivan, the latter pastor of the Church of the Sacred Heart. The honorarv pallbearers were A. C. Carr on, Con F. Kelly. P. J- Brophy. Charles E. Meagher. Elias Siege! and Rod D. Lf-ggat. The active pallbearers pallbear-ers were John J. O'Neill. Harry Gall-wey. Gall-wey. John A. Coleman.. Harry A. Holp, Dennis O'Neill and Charles Mack.
