Show I BOISE, IDA. f j i Christmas at St. John's. The musical program at St. John's Catholic cathedral for Christmas services serv-ices was of a very high order. The choir has been rehearsing for several months on Giorza's celebrated "First Mass." Several of the best vocalists in the city assisted. The services began at midnight. Bishop Glorieux. who for the first time in the city celebrated the pontifical high mass, delivered a short sermon. The service opened with the Christmas hymn, "Cantique de Noel,", sung by Mr. Harry Wood Brown. "Novello's Adeste Fideles" was sung for the offertory. Sopranos Mesdames Johnson, Parker, Par-ker, Phelps, Davis, and Misses Daly, Parker and Ohrisman. Altos Mesdames Donaldson, Stolle, Wilco, and Misses Hawley and Ryan. Tenors Messrs. Schafner, Latimer, Wyman and Plcnkner. Bassos Messrs. Woodburn. Roberts, Coats, Schrieber and Nelberding. Organist Mrs. M. A. Swift. The choir was accorhpanied by an orchestra or-chestra of fiftern pieces under the direction di-rection of Mr. Harry Wood Brown. The same program, including the pontifical blessing and special dispensation dispen-sation was carried out at 10:30 Christmas Christ-mas morning. An excellent program was given at St. Teresa's academy last week Friday, it being the last day before the Christmas Christ-mas holidays. A large number interested inter-ested in the splendid work of the academy acad-emy Mere present. Mrs. James Coughlin and son, Harry, arrived here Monday to make their permanent per-manent home. Mr. Coughlin is night conductor between Boise and Nampa. Miss Alice Conners, one of the pupils at St. Teresa's academy, has gone to her home at Silver City to spend the Christmas vacation. From all appearances Father Demp-sey Demp-sey of St. Paul's Catholic church at Nampa is about the proudest man in town since the arrival of his new bell from Baltimore. The bell is by no means the only improvement made, however, as there are others, which include in-clude ten new pews, that have just been installed, a balcony erected for the choir, and carpenters are now engaged in cutting through two new windo near the altar. y . , r i |
