Show A War Time Priest. During the Civil war, Father Nicholas Nich-olas Simon, who died recently in New Orleans, said mass in an old soapworks shop known as a gun factory because ! of the Confederate ammunition stored there before the city fell into the hands of the Union army. He passed through several of the most terrible yellow fever epidemics that New Orleans Or-leans ever knew, notably those of 1867 and 1878. Like a true priest of God, he was everywhere, ministering to the sick and dying, and when the plague died away there was no name more loved and blessed than that of Father Simon. |
