Show A Demand For Justice. IN CONNECTION with a letter from its correspondent in Manila; detailing detail-ing the systematic effort made in the Philippines to eradicate the Catholic Cath-olic faith from the hearts of the school children of those islands, our esteemed contemporary, the Catholic Columbian, suggests a visit to the president of the United States and the secretary of war by representative Catholic laymen, fortified by a consultation with the Church authorities, and a strong setting set-ting forth of this grave, case. . Says our esteemed contemporary: Those schools have a Protestant superintendent, su-perintendent, Mr. Atkinson. They have a number of Protestant ministers, minis-ters, like the Rev. Mr. Stowe and the Rev. Dr. Barrow s, as superintendents' in large cities "a union of church ahd state" denounced by. the "patriotic", organizations in this country. They have a majority of their American teachers Protestants. They have been stripped of their Catholic emblems, crucifixes, pictures, etc., and now the late anti-Catholic Katipunan, Jose Rizal, is to be held up by the Atkinson Atkin-son gang to the admiration of the children by means of a holiday -in his honor as "the Filipino Washington." Letters and resolutions of protest wiil do no good. To accomplish anything with public men they muFt face action ac-tion and not words, the face to face demand for justice r.ather than some long distance echoes of opinions held by citizens whom they do not personally person-ally know. |
