Show ABOUT ALUMINUM. Though aluminum takes first rank among metals for lightness, combined with toughness and durability, it is hardly what one would expect to prove useful as a textile material, but the articles now made from it include neck-cloths, pompadours, shoes, be'N neckties, shawls and hats. Straps and lacings for shoes are among the newest new-est productions. Sleeves or screens from aluminum have proven especia'Iv valuable in sugar refining, as it quickly quick-ly becomes coated with acid, resisting oxide; and it can be woven alone into fabrics for other purposes. The best results, however, are obtained ob-tained by employing the aluminum yarn smooth or twisted as warp with colored silk threads for veft.' When this cloth Is made into cloaks or theatrical costumes the eff-.t is very striking, and the body of a beautiful beau-tiful woman Is said to look as thou-'i dipped in. silver. Fabrics and clo'hs from glass-and silk threads wo-en together attracted much attmtWM when exhibited in Paris some y-ars ago. |
