Show PARLIAMENT ADJOURXS. London Parliament adjourned on August 3, until November 15, During the recess the conferences of the leaders lead-ers who are trying to settle the constitutional con-stitutional differences between the House of Lords and the House of Commons will be continued. Several of the points in dispute have been adjusted ad-justed and Premier Asquith in a statement to the Commons-on July 29 stated that the discussion had so ad-! vanced during the twelve meetings ' held as to render it, in the opinion of all the confreres, not only desirable desira-ble but necessary that they should continue. The most important work of the new parliament has been the adoption adop-tion of the contested budget, the struggle over which-during the preceding pre-ceding parliament brought the longstanding long-standing controversy between the Commons and the Lords to a head and caused the dissolution of Parliament Parlia-ment and new elections. Premier Asqulth's cabinet having been sustained sus-tained at the general election, the majority being dependent upon the rupport of the Irish members, the budget was adopted without extended extend-ed further discussion, and,, under the influence of the king's death, both parties were inclined to seek a friendly friend-ly adjustment of the dispute over the Lords' power of veto rather than precipitate pre-cipitate new elections. A friendly feeling between the parties was also noticeable in the discussion of the bill modifying the Accession Declaration, the . old-time phrases against the Catholic doctrine being eliminated and the declaration being made acceptable ac-ceptable to all the king's subpects. Non-conformists as well as Catholics. |
