Show WANDERING VIRTUE ON THE STAGE. It is a serious reflection upon social morals, that in so many society plays and books, there must be some faithless faith-less woman, dragging her sorry presence pres-ence across the pages of events. Strange, too, that respectable and intelligent in-telligent women will read and look on. as if wandering virtue were a necessary neces-sary and interesting aspect of life. People will sit and enjoy the harrowing harrow-ing details of infidelity, thinking that because the consequences fall heavily heavi-ly upon the straying one there is a great moral lesson in it that justifies the recreant curiosity. But, alas! the lesson is lost in the shocking details which occupy the mind and lend their presence to poison the thoughts. Some people think they can indulge themselves them-selves in such depraved exhibitions and then neutralize the experience by putting on their best clothes and going to church next Sunday. This happens in fact too often. We see it and then wonder at the shallow and stony soil into which the gospel seeds are scattered. Catholic Advance, Wichita. |
