Show MGR. AGIUS. Mgr. Agius left Rome for his delegation in the Philippines last week, greatly cheered by the prospect of resuming and completing his valuable val-uable work there. His visit to Rome has been the means of securing the speedy approval of the statutes of thtj provincial council, which was held in Manila last year, the creation of four new dioceses and a vicariate apostolic, the enrollment of new contingents of regular clergy and nuns to help in the work of preserving the faith. One of the great dangers of the moment arises from the presence in the Archipeligo of over 60 Protestant missionaries, who have found the ground not altogether unprepared for them, owing to the dearth of priests, the Aglipay schism, the disturbance created by war and rebellion. It is hoped that Catholic America will now do everything possible to counteract the influence of these emissaries em-issaries by providing the Bishops with the means necessary for the support of priests and churches. |
