Show - ALL HALLOWS COLLEGE. Artistic Windows from Bavaria Now ! Adorn the Chapel. . I The new chapel at All Hallows college col-lege and its memorial windows representing repre-senting famous classical paintings, was a center of attraction for a large num-'ber num-'ber of people Sunday afternoon. The windows are from Munich, Bavaria the great center of this branch of art' and are unequaled by anything oMhe kind in the intermountain country. They picture world-famous subjects of the greatest masters of sacred painting and in richness of color and refinement of tone appeal to all lovers of the beautiful, beau-tiful, as was witnessed bv the eulogis tic comments and the silent admiration 0fthe 200 or 300 people who saw them. . The pictures represent the principal events in the New Testament, and are arranged in chronological order, beginning begin-ning with Hobbein's "Annunciation of the Virgin," "Visitation of St. Elizabeth Eliza-beth and "Birth of the Savior." Mu-nllo's Mu-nllo's "St. Joseph" and Raphael's "St. Cecelia" come next in order. The next two are by Tissot. '''The Boy Christ Among the Doctors" and the tableau 'Suffer Little Children to Come Unto Me." Michael Angelo's "Christ Giving1 the Keys of Heaven to St. Peter" is a most impressive conception. "The Agony in the Garden of Geth-semane" Geth-semane" and Van Dyck's "Crucifixion" are on the south side of the chaDel fol lowed, by Murillo's "Ascension of Christ," "Assunption of the Virgin Mary" and "Crowning of Mary " The "Vision of the Sacred Heart," by Hoffman, Hoff-man, completes the series. . The new altar in the chapel, of white Carrara marble, in the Romanesque style, Js magnificent. It has columns oC onyx and makes a beautiful picture in itself, especially when lighted up by immense electric bulbs. The president of All Hallows, the very Rev. J. J. Guinan, and his assistant assist-ant Father Murphy, are justly proud of the artistic chapel, to the completion of which they, have devoted muah of their time and energy. President's day at All Hallows college col-lege was celebrated with impressive religious re-ligious services Sunday. Throughout the . programme were numbers which made the day a notable one for the students stu-dents and instructors. Solemn high mass was celebrated by the Very Rev. Father Guinan, president of All Hallows, with the following assistants: as-sistants: Deacon,, the Very Rev. Father Fa-ther Byrne: sub-deacon, the Rev. Father Fa-ther Kelledy; master of ceremonies, the Rev. Father Bower. During the celebration of the mass the choir sang Peter's mass in D. This was a feature of the services, and one in which the performers acquitted themselves creditably. The Rev. Father Murphy : preached an instractlve sermon on the subject of "St. Joseph." His address was eloquent elo-quent and impressive, appealing especially espe-cially to the young. The new chapel, built for the use of the students, was beautifully decorated decorat-ed for the occasion with a wealth of carnations and American Beauties The magnificent altar of marble and onyx was effectively banked with floral dec-orations. . The blessing of the new altar" will" lake place at an early date. |
