Show Usy tike As the nation goes "all out" for war production, Idaho political po-litical leaders clear the decks for what at this distance appears ap-pears to be the coming of a storm. Neither macrine is rappy over tre fact that Idaro hasn't been mentioned above a wrisper in tre rusr to relp tre allies produce the ' things with which the axis will be defeated. Unless there is a turn-about in the right direction, a thorough Overhauling is promised for both brganizations. We .haven't been around long enough to gather all the facts, but there seems to be a decided lack of interest in obligations to the home state by our representatives at Washington. At least there are rumors to that effect, and chances are what may be a drizzling few grains of sand will develop into an lionest-to-gosh landslide at the tpolls. Republicans are training I their gun sites on a GOP triumph tri-umph throughout the state. Democrats are polishing their arms for a defensive stand. Both are willing to substitute new faces if the change will produce pro-duce results. And in all this hustle and bustle to muster full strength for what in ordinary times would undoubtedly undoubted-ly already have received more interest in-terest from the voters, neither party has lost sight of good governmental gov-ernmental policies. , '" . It's a sad condition when a politician rides in on his party membership. And yet every day It 'is evident more and more of our public office holders have done just that. With the nation up to its neck 1n a life or death struggle, our Congressmen (that takes in nearly near-ly of them) found time to discuss in serious tones the advisability of pensions. These same gentlemen are supposedly sup-posedly nearer to the' bold faits of tills war than we, the exiled public. pub-lic. Their pensionitls must have been a considerable boost to the morale of; our fighting legions. They called the whole thing off, but not until after their hides had been raked through the hot coals. Too many of us weigh a man by his party affiliation not enough of us govern our political politi-cal representatives for what their ability Is worth. And it is glad that we are to report that both parties in Idaho are stepping off in the other direction di-rection the right direction to clean up at home. If nothing else", their efforts may produce startling results at Washington. Wash-ington. We have always believed that whether we are Democrats or Republicans Re-publicans we should, all of us reserve re-serve this right to vote for the man we think is better qualified to serve; firBt, the nation now that we are at war; second, the people he represents at home and not at all himself. In asking for consideration from the war production board, Idaho Is offering its resources to fulfill an obligation it inherited in-herited when It became one of the united states. The Gem Btate's motives are not selfish once. We have something to give l and we're having a damned hard time to give it away. This isn't a rush on the "pork barrel." War is serious business-, too serious for selfish acts. But Idaho's abundance of natural natur-al resources surely could be of some help to our Uncle Sam. And it's yours, U. S., for the asking. ask-ing. Postscrlft; We can't blame our Uncle Sam if our delegates to the capltol can't holler loud enough to be heard. o o |
