S George Chamber of Commerce Commerce Com Com- m merce in a statement published hed Inthe in inthe inthe the Washington County News has Issued what amounts to tl a warning to Iron County people and a throat threat to the State Road that the proposed road from fron highway 93 In Nevada to highway 91 in Utah must b bi built by way of Enterprise Or E Ese Eise se Some time ago representatives of Washington and Iron counties met metIn metIn metIn In Cedar City to urge construction of such a connecting link and af after after af af- ter much discussion as to the best and most rut rute it was unanimously agreed trat the maj major r concern was getting a 1 connecting road constructed between en Cedar I City and Panacea as early as pos Bible sibil and I Both oth counties would agree I to leave the matter in the hands of the State Road Commission and I after surveys were mad made the decision de decision de de- of that commission as to the I route to be followed would be ac ac- The controversial question I Iwas was as to whether the road after I leaving Newcastle should BO Ita to Enterprise Enterprise En En- then through Enterprise canyon to the Nevada state line Unel or to Modena and on to the state stateline line Une The he surveys were completed and the State Road Commission instead In Instead In in- stead of selecting one of the routes recommended that both roads be constructed the Panacea to Newcastle New castle by way of Enterprise as a Federal Aid highway and the Panaca Panaca Pan Pan- aca to Newcastle by way of Modena Modena Mo Mo- dena as a Farm to Market or secondary highway This of course cannot be done or at least not for many years because of the fact that the demands on the Federal government for road rond building Is so great gr that to to- build parallel l roads to serve practically lly the same territory is entirely out of the question at this time The Snow canyon road should and will be constructed but has no bearing on the cedar to Panaca road project The report that the Modena road will be Improved by Iron county it the state road does not follow its route is entirely Justified Tills This road has long been established and must be maintained as a service to residents of the Ule west end of Iron county If the state road passes 1 through that section of course coure the problem Is solved but If it does dOj's I not it ft will be necessary for the cour county courty y to provide roads in t that section of the county |
