Show Aggies Look Good in Scrimmage By A. H. Gibbons For nearly four hours last Saturday Sat-urday four full teams scrimmaged in the Aggie Stadium, at the college col-lege and though it was the first strenuous session of the year some of the players already were shining shin-ing lights in their play and should Smiling Dick manage to uncover a star in his backfield some other members of the Big Seven are due for some surprises. No attempt was made to pick out any first squad. The players were divided into four teams with replacements for each and they worked on plays for nearly ' four hours. It was good to see the zip and fire those boys put into their practice session. The back field men were really smacking into ball carriers vocabulary. Ira Winger Wing-er promises to be evn more that line and some of the tackles were hard enough to rattle the elusive and speedy than last year. And then he had his opponents worried every time he took the ball. Slater at quarter back seemed to be headed for some real playing. play-ing. Seth Maughan in his first year of varsity ball seems to fit right into the picture and will give some of the older men a real race for the signal calling job. This young HercUles wfith his shoulders and pile driver legs should go places in the ball carrying carry-ing department. Eddie Penn, Collegiate pitcher is in uniform and trying out for an end position and with his size and speed showed up well in scrimmage scrimm-age the other day. With a few more days of scrimmage under their belts the team should begin to take shape. Cardon, red headed speedster, is being groomed for a backfield post. Last year he preformed pre-formed at end. If he makes the grade with his speed he should be harder to catch than Captain Ey-ston Ey-ston in his Thunderbolt. All in all Smiling Dick seemed to be well satisfied at the end of Saturdays session and he admitted admitt-ed that things looked pretty good when he .sent the boys to the Showers. The Aggies get their first test against the College of Idaho on October 1st in the local stadium. stad-ium. A week later they face Colorado Colo-rado U. champions of last year, and from that time on they haven't hav-en't a let up until they play the University of Idaho at Ogden. |
