Show School Board Lets Contracts for Coal Parowan Times Bids were considered and contracts let by the School Board at Its meeting I recently for furnishing coal to the schools of the district as follows I Cedar City Ken Macfarlane at I Paragonah Ken Macfarlane at 9 00 Summit Myron S. S Jones at Enoch Myron S. S Jones at Midvalley Myron S S. Jones at For Parowan the bids of John I Ithe and and Ken Macfarlane were the same per ton and the ter of deciding to which the contract ud sh-ud go was left with the president o o 0 the board and the superintendent There was a suspicion that both bl bidders bidders bid bid- I I ders were working together though the bids didn't show It and it Is Intimated that In all will get the contract since Macfarlane was given a good share of the others I In the case of Leon Dads Datis was low bidder at as against Reeves Peeves but there was some question as to the quality of the coals and that is bein being investigated before the contract is let The Board also decided at Its meetIng meeting meeting meet meet- ing to roof re-roof the tte auditorium of th the Parowan school building with nth a ten ten- year guarantee roofing by hy the American American American Amer Amer- ican Asphalt Co at a cost of and to have Cedar City put c concrete sidewalks on the East side of the Cedar school grounds The agreement with lith the city Is such that the cost of these walks can be spread over two or three years Two applications from Parowan district dis dis- one for a new transportation route and one for extending the present present present pres pres- ent one farther west were denied chiefly chief chief- ly for the reason that the budget funds for transportation will not take tak rare of It The application for the new route came from the people In tle fie Parowan lane all of whom are within two and a half miles of school The Board has a policy warranted it thin thinks by State statutes under which it will not provide pro transportation for those residing within that distance at least until all those within the county who live farther from school than that have hae been provided for On a motion to maintain that policy prompted by the petition there were three votes for andone andone and andone one against the President not voting Incidentally cost of transportation in the district has increased from 1000 in 1925 to for the 30 1929 budget and the latter amount Is s all contracted for The members of the th Board were each given ghen a co copy y of the Su Superintendents Superintendent's annual report a rather comprehensive cne CIe containing about thirty pa paves pases es for perusal and some other minor matters matter were disposed of before the meeting |
