J Morten Morten- son son then Bishop of the Parowan Ward Parowan Stake of Zion Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints abandoned his Is people and his pos post of ol I duty luty and fled to parts unknown wn leavIng leaving leav- leav Ing ng unexplained and shortages in his Tithing Department Ecclesiastical ward accounts all oi of which was a severe shock to the people people peo peo- pIe over o whom he presided to his ranking officers and to his fellow communicants throughout the Parowan Paro Faro wan Stake The Stake Presidency and High I Council taking official cognizance of I Bishop t derelictions sought for months to establish communication com com- communication with him and finally succeeded in reaching him with a citation cit to appear before beCore the said council council coun cil and stand trial for his fellowship Accordingly the High Council sat in judicial capacity March 17 1923 to hear icar the case Brother failing ailing to appear J Judgment was rendered against him by default and the he following d decision handed down wit o-wit That on or before December 1823 Hans Bans J. J shall shaH return I to the Parowan Stake of Zion and meet meet the people from whom he fled led to make public acknowledgment before before be be- fore ore his Ward of his error in thus abandoning his post of duty and ask their forgiveness Further that he meet his creditors under the charge and make restitution or satisfactory arrangements with them concerning his ils obligations to them Failure to J I comply with these stipulations shall j I result in excommunication from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints At Brother request the time limit was later extended to July 19 1924 This is to certify that the above judgment has been fully complied with Bro met with the Saints in Parowan Sunday July I made suitable acknowledgments and was unanimously forgiven He lie also met with the Bishop and made satisfactory satisfactory satis satis- factory adjustments in the Ecclesias ward accounts He lie then proceeded proceed proceed- ed to Salt Lake City where he made satisfactory settlement with the Presiding Presiding Pre Pre- siding Bishopric for the shortages in his Tithing accounts He lIe has cleared cleared clear clear- ed his record and as far tar as possible made right his wrongs and has returned returned re reo turned to his home in California with the good will and blessings of the Church Parowan Stake Presidency HENRY W.
