| Show OFFICIALS LS VISIT PLANT an INSPECT MILLS AND QUARRY RY OF TilE THE JUMBO CEMENT CEMENT CEMENT CE- CE MENT AND PLASTER COMPANY COMPANY COMPANY COM- COM PANY AT SIGURD UTAH FIND RAW MATERIAL NO BETTER THAN THAT TO TOBE TOBE TOBE BE FOUND HERE e 1 t i 00 Last Thursday y a party of officials of the newly incorporated plaster and cement company accompanied by the editor of the Record made a trip of inspection to the Sigurd plaster and cement plant and the quarry from which the raw material is taken for making into finished product The ride over o was interesting and made in record time roads were ideal weather pleasant and the party a congenial set of men who were out for pleasure as well as business Upon arriving at the Sigurd mill we found it in operation running night and da day and producing on an Average of 50 tons of finished products pro prod products ducts every 24 2 hours The mill can be speeded up to a capacity of 75 tons in the spring of the year when the water supply is at its highest point but in the fall of the year when the water is at the lowest point the capacity stands at about 50 tons per 24 hours The manager of the mill took the party through the various departments departments departments depart depart- ments and showed the numerous stages of refining that the gypsum used must go through before it is finished and ready for shipment We were told that the previous month the mill running at the 50 tons capacity netted a profit to the Va kr company of several thousand dollars dol- dol lars besides paying the overhead T of operation and the salaries r of the 30 or 40 men now employed We were also informed that the call for the product was insist ant and the demand more than the supply could take care of and that orders for the product were stacked up in the office that would keep the mill going for fora a year at least After going through the mill the party was then taken two miles distant distant dis dis- dis tant to the quarry of gypsum where we found a number of men employed employ employ- ed blasting and breaking up the raw product for transportation by team to the mill The raw material was found to be but slightly less in purity purity purity pur pur- ity to that found here The gypsum found at Sigurd tests up to per percent percent percent cent pure while that in Coal Creek Canyon tests up to per cent pure The deposit although a splendid one is not more than one fourth as large as the one located in Coal Creek canyon and is not as easily access access- ible The Mammoth Plaster and Cement Company when they build their mill at the deposit in Coal Creek can canyon on will not have to haul the raw product product product pro pro- duct as the mill will be built immediately ly the deposit The savi sayI sav- sav I r i of Jf a team haul of two miles will n. n I that the the plaster can be pro- pro du at about 33 3 1 per cent less cost in Coal Creek canyon than plaster er is being produced for at Sigurd The Sigurd mill for the past year or more has been making for the stockholders several thousand dollars per month which is used to pay dividends dividends dividends divi divi- and and after pa paying ing dividends the past year per cent on the dollar the company compan now has already tHready for forthe the next some some soma in the treasury Alread Already the local company company have assurance of orders for plaster from firms doing business on th the coast that will keep the mill that will be erected next season busy for a number number num num- ber her of months and as the coast as aswell aswell aswell well as Utah Nevada and Arizona are being bu built It up rapidly and the outlook lor tor b building w rants the assertion as as- 4 that it will maintain for sev- sev eral elal years ears there is but little littIe doubt I the proposed plaster and cement mill that will be erected b by the Man Mam Mammoth moth Plaster and Cement Company will be a dividend payer We have been informed by pretty good authority that when the mill is built and in opera ton a spur of the Lund Cedar-Lund branch of the U. U P.
