Show Oiled Mulch Roads For South Sanpete Further improvement of highways in Sanpete county is now announced by C. E. Knowlton, assistant state road engineer, and J. E. Garn, dis-tirct dis-tirct engineer, following a meeting with the Sanpete county commissioners. commis-sioners. Important to Gunnison in the 1928 program is the building of several miles of oiled mulch roads. This type of road, which yet in the experimental stage, is to be given a test here and some two and a half miles will be built south, connecting with the end of the pavement and carried to a point just below the sugar factory. It is claimed that this tye of road, where built in other sections of the state, is proving prov-ing highly satisfactory and it plays an important part not only as a highway, high-way, but it does away with dusty roads and is a boon to travelers from this view point. A mile and a half of the oiled mulch will be laid from the north end of the pavement east and towards Manti. June Metcalf, member of the board of county commissioners, has announced an-nounced that 'the building of this highway, high-way, will be on the 26-74 basis, the state participating and carrying the heavy end of the cost. Not only will the oiled mulch roads be constructed but it is officially announced an-nounced that the Gunnison-Levan hie-hway, from Gunnison to Fayett, will be incl-ded in the 1928 road program pro-gram for the county. Practically all of the road from this city to the Juab county line has been completed, being be-ing graded and graveled, with the exceptions ex-ceptions of the stretch between this city and Fayette. The plan for the work between Gunnison and Fayette will be the elimination of the three right angle curves near Fayette This portion of the highway will be abandoned and the turn at a point near the shearing corals will be carried car-ried direct to the northwest, and on'y two curves, both of which will meet the road regulations, will carry the highway to the south end "of the town, connection with the highway going north. With this section of the Gunnison-Levan road completed, northbound travelers will then have a splendid highway. |
