Show Gunnison Pioneer Called to Reward Impressive funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Gunnison Gun-nison Valley high school auditorium for Niels C. . Christenscn, a resident of Gunnison for the past 43 years. Services were under the direction of Bishop Jos. A. Larson, who with C. P. Larson and Hans C. Jensen paid a high tribute to the one who- had answered ans-wered the final call. In addition to the splendid addresses, an appropriate musical program was given, and a profusion of beautiful flowers, tokens of esteem and respect, banked the, casket , as it lay at the altar. Interment Inter-ment was held at the Gunnison cemetery. ceme-tery. Mr. Christensen died at his home early Thursday morning of last week and following a lingering illness as a result of kidney afflictions. He had been ill more than a year, and since, the death of his wife some three years ago, his health had been failing. fail-ing. Niels Christensen was born in Sheron, ' Denmark, October 16, 1857, and was 74 years of age at his death. He was the son of Christian and Christena Nielson Christensen. In the year 1884 he was married to Ida Lon-dena, Lon-dena, and in 1892 Mr. and Mrs. Christensen set sail for America. During the voyage their first child was born at sea. This daughter was christened , Atlanta Sena Nevada Christensen and she is now a resident of Gunnison, the wife of Chas. Wilson. Wil-son. Mr. and Mrs. Niels Christensen, after arriving in America, came direct dir-ect to Gunnison and since that lime Mr. Christensen had made this city his permanent home. Surviving Mr. Christenscn arc three daughters, Mrs. I. C. Williams of Sherida, Manitoba, Can.; Mrs. Wil , Ham Welsh of Miami, Ariz.; Mrs. Chas. L. Wilson of Gunnison; and three sons, John Christensen of Lark, Martin and Otto Christensen of Gunnison. Gun-nison. Four brothers, Anthony, Peter C, Niels A. and Martin Madsen, of this city, and fifteen grandchildren, are also left as survivors. |
