Show Mastery of India Won at Battle of Plassey Warren Hastings, the first governor-general, governor-general, laid the foundations of the present administration of India. The old Indian empire em-pire of the Great Moguls had fallen into the hands of provincial viceroys and In the fight for supremacy Clive aided certain of these against others backed by the French. His great victory vic-tory of Plassey, in June, 1757, with 3,200 men opposed to 60,000, determined deter-mined the struggle.
