Show Springdale Boys Scale Park Pesk On November 7, West Temple, the highest elevation in Zion National park, was scaled for the first time when two Springdale boys, Norman and Newell Crawford, successfully made the ascent and descent. West Temple lises to an elevation of 4,000 feet above the Virgin river at it's base, and is almost completely g:rdled with hjgh vertical cliffs. The Crawford boys report that about four hours were taken for the climb, and the return trip was made in less than two hours. They stated that they encountered several .places climb was both very diffi- cult and dangerous, but even if they had found easy going all the way the climb of 4,000 feet in four hours must have been considered fast going. On arrival at the top the boys built a smoke signal fire which was seen by several Springdale residents at about 2:00 p. m. |
