Show Monday Proclaimed Arbor Day In Utah Local City Councilmen Set Monday As Clean-Up Day Have you thought of the beautifi-cation beautifi-cation of your home! And have you made a survey of the piles of ashes, tin cans, manure, outdoor toilets, and other trash that might invite disease or that will, with the coming of warm weather, make an ideal breeding place for millions of flies the disease carriers? car-riers? If you have failed in these observations ob-servations it is not amiss that you be reminded of 'the duty you! owe to' yourself, your family and the public in general. Next Monday, April 10, through official acts of Governor Blood, has been set aside throughout Utah as Arbor' Day. Ordinarily this day is devoted to the planting of trees. It , will- serve a dual purpose in Gunni-I Gunni-I son this year. In addition to planting ! trees and flowers, it will be observed observ-ed as "Clean-Up Day" in Gunnison. At least it will be the start of cleaning clean-ing up the town, and will liktly continue con-tinue through the week or until every home, every yard, every barn lot, is spick and span and attractive. Mayor Andrew Modeen has declared declar-ed Monday a holiday, in keeping with Governor Blood's proclamation for Arbor Day, and has tsked that all stores be closed throughout the day. Mayor Modeeri has a!so asked the united cooperation of every citizen of Gunnison to join in the "Clean-Up" campaign. In order to facilitate matters in caring car-ing for the accumulated rubbish, trucks have been engaged to haul it to the dumping grounds. It is asked, j however, that residents place their receptacles containing the debris at a convenient place in front of their homes, thus enabling "the truckers to handle it more conveniently. Districts have been formed and a council member mem-ber will represent each district. His purpose will be to notify home owners own-ers to "get on the job" and have ' everything in readiness. |
