Show Valley Dairymen Favor Association County and local project leaders, with a view to encourage the building up. of better and higher butterfat producing dairy herds in the Gunnison Gunni-son Valley, are busy in this section '- and are lining up farmers who would make gains from this industry to cooperate co-operate in the cow testing association associa-tion work. Since the move was started start-ed more than the usual interest has been shown and indications are that a majority of the farmers keeping dairy cows will join in the work. County agent C. 0. Stott, who was in Gunnison Monday, announced that plans for the work would be carried out as soon as possible, and that an expert in the cow testing work would be here to put over the test. The plan is to make thorough tests and the cows giving certain percentages of butterfat would be recommended for keeping. Those falling below a certain cer-tain - standard will be recommended for disposal. Dairy cattle falling below be-low . a certain standard are a detriment detri-ment to the farmer and the sooner they are disposed of the better off the dairyman will be. The expert coming t(o the valley, Mr, Stott stated, will not only aid in the testing, but will advise on proper rations,' as feeding and care are essential es-sential points with success in the dairy business. The feeding problem does-not' apply to herds alone, but special attention will be given to individual in-dividual cows. Breeding problems will also form a part of the instructions instruc-tions to be advanced by the visiting expert tester. The cost of having tests made, which will be on the every-other-month plan, will be nominal nom-inal , and will afford every owner of a dairy herd to gain a-wide, information informa-tion for successful dairying. |
