Show Gunnison Captures first at Track Meet Coach Payton Alexander's track team, which carried off the honors at the county track meet a few weeks ago at Manti, added to their laurels with another wonderful victory Saturday, Satur-day, when they captured first place in the region four track meet held at the high school grounds last Saturday. Sat-urday. Competing against four other schools, the Gunnison boys walked off with a glowing victory, winding up with 70.7 points. Monroe nosed out in second place with a score of 56.9. But two points separated Wasatch academy acad-emy and Richfield for third place. Richfield's total was 43.7, while that of Wasatch was 43.5, giving the academy boys fourth. Manti was at the tail end with 5.2 points. Considerable disappointment was felt, due to the fact that only the five schools entered the track meet. It was expected that Garfield, Wayne and Piute schools would be on hand, but none showed up. The meet here, from the standpoint of good records, was one of the most successful staged for some time. The several schools entered the game with confidence and high hopes were held for victory from all entrants. By taking Saturday's joust, the Gunnison trackmen, at least seven of them who showed in first, second and third places, will go to Salt Lake Saturday morning to take part in the state meet, scheduled for Saturday afternoon. Coach Alexander stated yesterday that he would accompany Eldon Mclff, Dean Andersen, Bernard Ber-nard Anderson, Wendell Hill, Forest Hill, Iral Despain and Royal Kaneko to the state meet, and felt confident (Continued on las'; page) Gunnison Captures First at Track Meet (Continued from page 1) : that some of his men would be crowned crown-ed with victory. j Following is a summary of Satur-!
