Show Local Bank Shows Savings Increase Notwithstanding the fact that some are complaining of "hard times' that prevail here slightly and are prevalent preval-ent in many of the eastern manufacturing manufac-turing centers, Gunnison City and the residents of Gunnison Valley are progressing pro-gressing satisfactorily, according to Ira Overfelt, cashier for the Gunnison Gunni-son Valley bank. The residents of the valley, according to Mr. Overfelt, are getting more and more saving-minded as shown by the savings deposits at the Gunnison Valley bank, and no better bet-ter evidence of thriftiness could be demonstrated. The savings department of the local bank, as compared with a year ago, has gone by leaps and bounds. The June report this year shows the bank's savings accounts to be $13,000 more than the April report. re-port. The statistics now show an increase in-crease for the past six months of $18,000. Today the total savings a -counts are listed at $145,000, a reeo; d for the institution, and in the luce of "hard times." Another creditable part of the recent re-cent financial report of the bank ir, the fact that loans had been materially material-ly reduced and since December SI, 1929, more than $12,000 had been paid in for obligations extended by the banking institution. The surplus and undivided profits show a healthy gain during the past six months and altogether the institution is more than holding its own. With planting of crops and harvesting," harvest-ing," the bank is meeting all necessary demands and primarily business is held within the city. |
