Nephi at Ephraim. Elsinore at Salina. It took a bridegroom of Saturday to step in and turn the tide that threatened defeat for the Gunnison baseball team at the Gunnison dia-. dia-. mond Sunday, when Salina was slightly slight-ly in the lead. In the last half of the eighth, when the score stood 8 to 10, with Salina leading, and with two men on, Waldo Villard clouted a homer, scoring himself and two mates. Salina failed to tally in her half of the ninth and a glorious victory held . v Gunnison in the second position in league standing, Salina going to third position. Villard flirted with Dan Cupid Cu-pid Saturday, fleeing with the woman he loved, and his performance on the . diamond and the fact that he had joined the benedicts, brought forth a wonderful ovation. The exhibition Sunday, although the scores were high, was one of the best games played this season and the rivalry between the two was shown by clever playing on both sides. Erickson started the fray from the pitcher's box for the Gunnison boys. His pitching pitch-ing was good until the 7th, when Villard Vil-lard was substituted. Erickson allowed allow-ed 11 hits, but when Villard faced the visitors they were unable to locate lo-cate the fast ones. Eddie Jensen, fast third baseman for Salina,. was in the box for the visitors and as usual pitched a fast game. However, the Gunnison boys garnered 11 hits from him and Nyles Christensen, who took the plate for Jensen, and the scores run evenly until un-til the final when Villard, scoring for himself and two others, made his homer. Both teams were on their metal and notwithstanding the errors, five for Salina and 4 for Gunnison, all openings open-ings were watched and the fans got (Continued on last page) LOCALS BEAT SAUNA; GAIN SECOND PLACE j (Continued from first page) a good vision of what the respective j teams could furnish.
