Show Scouts Win Honors At ML Pleasant Fifty-four boy scouts, members oi the various troops of the Gunnison Valley district, together with scoutmasters scout-masters and officers, attended the big "jamboree" at Mt. Pleasant last Saturday. Gunnison, Centerfield, Clarion end Mayfield troops were out in force and the returning scouts declare the "jamboree" a huge success. suc-cess. Not only did the local boy scouts enjjoy a big time, but they returned with some honors. Billy Neloon on first in the wigwag signal sig-nal contest; Devine Madsen, 2nd in ' ot tieing; Gunnison troop first in marching, and the local signal team, Paul Duggins, Moyle Rasmussen. Arnold Larson and Uhlan Swalberg, captured third place in semaphore signalling. Gunnison and Centerfield returned with a total of 18 1-2 points, Centerfield garnering the 10 1-2 points. Transportation was furnished by loyal : boy scout supporters and the caravan moved from here at 10:30, returning at 7 in the evening. Chas. Rasmussen, district commissioner, accompanied the local contingent and directed the activities for his district. The meeting was not the usual track meet, consisting of racing, etc., but it was the. novel sight of seeing the scouts cooking, signalling, knot tieing, first-aid work and other activities ac-tivities pertaining to scout work. One of the novel features was some twenty boys around their campfires, cooking "flap jacks" and contesting with others in the art of making the best and most appetizing. Two of the exercises, won admiration from all present. They were the handicraft handi-craft exhibit, consisting of , knot boards, leather work, knife work and painting, and the flag exercises. Scout Devine Madsen of the Hamilton Hamil-ton troop, also won special praise for his exceptional work in painting. During the afternoon a mas rally and parade were featured, and these were followed by various contests. Pennants were given to the winners of first and second places in the various events. The events were hotly contested and some sm-prising results were the outcome. Points scored by winners were as follows: Manti, troop 1, 23 1-2; Sterling, 13;. Mt. Pleasant, troop 1, 12; Center-field, Center-field, troop 1, 10 1-2; Ephraim, troop 2, 10; Gunnison, 8; Mt. Pleasant, -nop 2, 7; Spring City, 7; Manti, troop 2, 4; Ephraim, troop 4, 3. Sixteen boy scout troops, totaling 211 scouts, together with their scoutmasters, scout-masters, troop committeemen, members mem-bers of the district councils and administrative ad-ministrative officers, made up the masses attending the jamboree. Executive Ex-ecutive W. G. Barton, served as field director, while the responsibility of judging in the contests was given over to the deputy commissioners.
