Show Salt on Asparagus Asparagus will stand salt applications applica-tions heavy enough to kill many weeds. Enough to make the ground white as with a heavy frost would be needed to have much permanent effect on weeds. The better plan is to have the plants far enough apart so that it is possible to get around each one with a hoe, and hand-pull the weeds in the clump. There has been wide difference of opinion about the use of salt on asparagus. as-paragus. At one time salting it was common practice, the idea being that it was good for the asparagus. New few do this. With suitable soil and plenty of plant food, good asparagus can be grown with or without salt. Rural New-Yorker. |
