Show Maple Canyon Will Get Financial Aid Maple Canyon, one of Southern Utah's undeveloped scenic attractions, is getting state-wide recognition and since state officials and others visited the spot last month, active steps have been taken to open the canyon with passabile highways. "Sell the attrac-tion attrac-tion to your local people first," said Forester DeMoisy, "and then action will be taken by the forest department depart-ment in aiding in opening the road to the central beauty spots." This is to be carried out by members of the Maple Canyon Development committee and some time in early fall it is proposed pro-posed to have a "county day," at which time residents of Sanpete, Sevier Sev-ier and Juab counties will gather at the canyon. The Mt. Pleasant Pyramid, Pyra-mid, in -its issue of last week, has the following comment on the San-' pete county commissioners: Members of the Maple Canyon Development De-velopment committee met Tuesday with the county commissioners at their regular meeting .at the county court house and' requested the county to assist in building a road into Maple Ma-ple Canyon for the benefit of the people peo-ple of the county as well as visitors who may come through this beautiful valley. Elmo Irons of Maroni, J. W. Locke and Burke McArthur of Mt. Pleasant Wells Thompson and Roscoe Cox of Dphraim, Clair Anderson of Manti, and Howard Cherry of Gunnison, all gave good reasons why the county should begin the building of a road into the beautiful' canyon. After hearing the pleadings of the committee and knowing how many people have walked into the canyon on, various occasions the commissioners commission-ers decided to spend $1500.00 or thereabouts there-abouts on a 50-50 basis with the people peo-ple of the county contributing a like amount in labor. They propose starting start-ing work in September! and going as far as possible this fall. |
