Show Livestock: jQ'HMGHnSftfr . r Cattle prices continue to hold up on the Los Angeles market, with choice fat steers this week selling- at the highest prices within the past four months. It is significant that the highest priced load of steers sold on the Los Angeles market since December De-cember 14th were fed by 4-H club boys. A group of club boys at Lubbock, Lub-bock, Texas, received $7.25 a cwt. for their choicely-bred, grain-fed steers. The higher price was realized because there was both breeding and quality back of the cattle. California grazing conditions are not entirely satisfactory, although ' much better than a year ago. The season sea-son is late and it is not expected that any number of grass-fat cattle will be available for coast markets until ' towards the end of this month, or about 30 days later than normal. Feed conditions are very satisfactory along the coast counties of California, and most of Southern California has good feed, although lack of rainfall during the past month has caused range feed to head out and this forage will not ' be as good as had been anticipated earlier in the year. Most sections in the San Joaquin valley have good feed conditions, but the northern part of ' the state is having high winds and j feed is not plentiful. All of the higher high-er elevations have had more than a jiormal amount of snow and rain and late pastures in those sections are very promising. Although reports of serious death losses of cattle and sheep in range districts continue to come in, well-informed well-informed stockmen insist that such reports re-ports are exaggerated and do not believe be-lieve that final tallies will show more than .normal losses, except on old ewes. Prospects of splendid summer range conditions throughout mountain moun-tain states continue to improve as a result of heavy snows and spring rains. Water will be plentiful for irrigation irri-gation purposes in virtually all west-em west-em states. |
