With the opening of the district' court at Manti yesterday morning, where Sheldon Reed Clark is being tried on a first degree murder I charge, the jury box had been filled, the twelve men chosen being N. P.1 Madsen of Manti; Brigham Jensen of Centerfield, Heber Livingston of Ft. Green; Joseph H. Snow, Manti; James Larsen, Manti; Jacob E. Big-lej-, Ft. Green; Alvin Cherry, Eph-raim, Eph-raim, W. A. Fjeldsted, Centerfield; H. P. Larsen, Manti; P. A. Poulson, Mt. Pleasant; Henry C. Lamb, Wales; L. P. Nelson, Mt. Pleasant. All of the jurymen have qualified, but are subject to preemptory challenges by after they had been advised to keep a lookout for Clark, as he was suspected sus-pected of the murder. Solovich's body was found by Edwin Ed-win Larsen, a state road worker. ft was while Larsen was passing tiw wash that, he heard groans and investigation inves-tigation revealed the body of Solo-vich Solo-vich in the death throes. Officers in Gunnison were notified and the body of Solovich was brought to Gunnison and life passed away just as the brutally murdered man was placed on the walk, preparatory to taking it to Dr. Ilagan's office. The crime, by far one of the most brutal in the annals an-nals of the state, shocked the com- either the prosecution or defense. Of the jury venire of sixty, summoned to appear for duty at the opening of the trial, only forty-two appeared in person. Those failing to appear' were evcused due to disability or necessitated necessi-tated presence at their severa' ranches or homes. While the j.-.r; box is filled, it is most likely tha both prosecution and defense will ex ercise their rights in challenges. The selecting of he jury has oc cupied all the time since the opening of the court session, and thus far, ir so far as the public and curious arc concerned, the opening fray has beer marked with but little interest. Clark, who is on trial under a firs' munity and bitterness was voiced by angry throngs who were attracted by the crime. County Attorney Edwards stated yesterday morning that it might be nossible to select the trial jury bv ioon today. In that event taking of widenoe will be started Friday morn-:ng. morn-:ng. Both the prosecution and defense de-fense have lined up a large number if witnesses and in all probability '"hree weeks or more will be necessary neces-sary in which to complete the trial. It is intimated that prominent per-ons per-ons from Hollywood and Los Ange-'es Ange-'es will be supoenaed before the 'lattle is ended. Rumors are to the effect that Lita Grey Chaplin, divorced di-vorced wife of the noted film star, may appear as a mystery witness. Tt is said that while Solovich wnr a Sutler at the Lita Grey Chi?,ilin home, he gathered evidence agarist Lhe comedian and claimed he was to have received a large sum of monoy 'or his services. When Clark murdered Solov h, 'he latter was supposed to be carrying car-rying a large sum of money, and it 's believed that the money Clark had when arrested at Salt Lake was taken from Solovich. Some damaging evidence against Clark has been gathered since the "rime was committed and it will be -"resented in the court when the case ;s started. County Attorney C. M. Edwards and F. W. Keller, district ilturney, who are prosecuting the ase against, Clark, together with a lumber of important witnesses and he county surveyor, yesterday aftor-loon aftor-loon vbitod the place where the laslni-dly deed war. committed and nade several notations as to points Mid distances. degree murder charge, appears littk concerned and goes to court nattil; dressed and is now termed tlv "shiek" by court attendants am visitors.
