Show ' I'll B "AMERICAN FASCISTI." I Atlanta dispatches tell of the establishment es-tablishment in Georgia of the "American "Amer-ican Fascisti." The members of this organization, seini-secret in character are to wear black shirts, and "fight radicalism." However, their chief -attention seems to have been devoted to date to the work of arousing race feeling. America tloes not need a Fascisti any more than it needs the bolshc-vists. bolshc-vists. Americans do not need to look for political inspiration either to Russia Rus-sia or Italy. Wo have a system of government here which does not admit ad-mit the idea of a dictatorship, either of a Mussolini or of the! proletariat. What we need to cultivate in the United States is a better appreciation apprecia-tion of and; devotion to American principles of government, which are contrary to the fundamentals of both fascism and bolshevism. Fascism arose in Italy after a complete breakdown break-down of representative government. It may have been a necessary remedy for political and economic chaos produced pro-duced radical agitation. It is probable prob-able that Mussolini has improved conditions con-ditions greatly in Italy, but certainly this has been at the . sacrifice . of liberty. Americans have no objection to the black shirts in Italy or even the red shirts in Russia. But we insist that this particular kind of haberdashery be worn in the homelands &f fascism and bolshevism.' Americans' could be at better business than aping the reactionary re-actionary institutions., of. Europe. |
